New/Mode is Shutting Down Our Twitter/X Advocacy Tool
As of February 15, 2025, New/Mode will no longer offer a Twitter/X Advocacy Tool.
There are several reasons for this decision, but platform changes are at the forefront.
X has increasingly become a space that amplifies far-right extremist views by design. X is also deprioritizing any posts that link to content outside the platform.
The platform is now largely shaped by its owner Elon Musk who has aligned X with leaders that represent a threat to democracy and human dignity.
We are not suggesting there’s no place for campaigners for social good to engage with Twitter/X.
The principle of meeting people where they are remains as vital as ever. There are still audiences on X worth reaching and engaging.
We made this decision thoughtfully. We understand that some of the world’s most effective campaigners rely on New/Mode, and the "Tweet Your Rep" advocacy tactic has made a real impact in the past.
However, providing a tool that exclusively targets elected officials on X is no longer appropriate or effective. Many U.S. representatives, for example, are moving to alternatives like BlueSky.
What’s Next for New/Mode and Social Media Advocacy?
We are actively evaluating ways to disengage from Twitter/X further, including adjustments to social sharing options and our own organizational presence. We’re prioritizing platforms like BlueSky for our social media engagement.
Looking ahead to 2025, we plan to review the evolving social media landscape and explore developing a new, likely multi-platform, social media advocacy tool.
Stay tuned—and let us know how we can help power your next campaign using social media!
