In Solidarity With Reproductive Rights
Many of us are still processing the news that the US Supreme Court removed the constitutional right to abortions in the overturning of Roe vs Wade. This devastating decision has stripped the fundamental right to bodily autonomy and has left millions without access to reproductive healthcare. The reduction of this right comes with terrifying surveillance and criminalization of people seeking abortions and puts their lives and wellbeing at risk.
As Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez put it in a recent Twitter thread: “The ruling is Roe, but the crisis is democracy.”
This decision goes against the beliefs and opinions of most Americans as over two thirds of American oppose government restriction on access to abortion and Ocasio-Cortez notes "seven out of the justices were appointed by a party that hasn’t won a popular vote more than once in 30 years."
The court recently made another alarming decision that “eviscerates the Environmental Protection Agency’s power to regulate a major source of the carbon emissions destabilizing our planet.”
The Supreme Court also recently blocked gun safety rules in New York. Let's really think about this: States are now empowered to criminalize reproductive healthcare and at the same time they are prevented from passing common-sense gun safety rules.
In moments like this our job is to focus on ensuring that our voices are impossible to ignore and push back against the regressive wave of the extreme right.
As an advocacy campaigner, it is difficult to process these issues at a pace of our choosing. Please always remember you’re not alone in the struggle to balance the need to take care of yourself and your community.
If you can please take time to support to these organizations that are on the ground fighting for reproductive rights:
- National Network of Abortion Funds
- Sister Song, Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective
- Black Feminist Future
- Abortion Funds in Every State
Here are some key campaigns in our community who are using our platform to secure reproductive rights:
- Housing Works Advocacy organized a protest in DC for Abortion Accesson June 30th.
- Stand Up America is pushing for reform of the Supreme Court.
- BeAHero, Tandem, Progressive Maryland are pushing for action at the State level.
- Action Canada for Sexual & Health Rights are organizing calls for improved abortion access in Canada.

Thank you for the inspiring work you’re doing on this and many other intersecting and crucial issues.
Sincerely,
Steve on behalf of your New/Mode team
